General Workshop/Trip Descriptions
 
Babes in the Backcountry winter workshops combine the nuts and bolts for safe backcountry with a unique approach to teaching these skills. It is a rare opportunity to learn with and from women while connecting with the outdoor environment. Visit far away destinations or increase your comfort exploring your own backyard while sampling new women's specific outdoor gear… all wrapped up in an inspiring & energizing getaway. Clinics include great give a-ways from sponsoring companies as well as a chance to win cool gear in the après ski raffle.

Backcountry:

  • Backcountry Basics: BC Basics is designed for the beginner backcountry enthusiast interested in gaining information on the equipment and skills integral for safe winter backcountry travel beyond the groomed trails. All disciplines welcome: Alpine/Downhill, Snow Board, Telemark, Cross Country or Snow Shoe. Classroom and Field time.
  • Backcountry Basics Weekend/Winter Safety Course: Designed for the beginner backcountry enthusiast (Alpine Skier, Snow Boarder, Beginner Telemark Skier, Nordic Skier or Snow Shoer) looking to travel beyond the groomed trails. This multi-day workshop combines both indoor classroom and outdoor field time day with evening events to provide an intro to the equipment and skills involved to travel safely and more enjoyably in the winter backcountry.
  • Backcountry Wellness Weekend: Designed for any level backcountry enthusiast of all disciplines: Alpine, Snowboard, Telemark, cross country and snowshoe babes looking to travel beyond the groomed trails. The multi-day workshops offer information in backcountry basics, with an emphasis on wellness in both the backcountry and everyday lift. Daily yoga, nutrition, and body-mind connection are topics featured while exploring and enjoying a backcountry hut experience.
  • Avalanche Level l & Avalanche Level l Hut Trips:Designed for the advanced intermediate and up Telemark, Alpine or Snowboarder with some previous backcountry experience looking to spend a fun weekend getaway dialing in their Avalanche Awareness Skills for safe travel in avalanche terrain. This course follows both AIARE and AAA Curriculums for Avalanche I. Upon successful course completion participants will obtain their Avalanche Level 1 certification from AAA or AIARE ( depending on the location of the course).
  • Avalanche Level I Refresher:Designed for the advanced intermediate and up Telemark, Alpine or Snowboard Babes interested in brushing up on avalanche avoidance and backcountry safety skills. This workshop draws upon the AIARE and AAA Avalanche Level 1curriculum. Pre-requisite: Avalanche I or some backcountry experience. 
  • Avalanche I Refresher Hut Trip: To maximize field time, the workshop incorporates a backcountry hut/yurt trip to allow for more skills practice. Designed for the advanced intermediate and up Telemark, Alpine or Snowboard Babes interested in brushing up on avalanche avoidance and backcountry safety skills. This workshop draws upon the AIARE and AAA Avalanche Level 1curriculum. Pre-requisite: Avalanche I or some backcountry experience.
  • Avalanche II Hut Trip:Ready for the next step in your Avalanche Apprenticeship? Combine a fun weekend get away to build on your prior classroom and practical backcountry experience. The workshop incorporates a backcountry hut/yurt trip to maximize field time and skills development. Pre-requisite: Avalanche Level I. This course follows the AIARE and AAA Curriculum for Avalanche II. Upon successful course completion participants will obtain their Avalanche Level 2 certification.

  • Tele Daze: One day Telemark Clinic for All Levels.
  • ALL STAR Free Heel Clinic: Half and Full Day Advanced Free Heel Clinics designed to take your skills to the next level through coaching from top female industry Pros. Check clinics for a list of special guest instructors.

Steep Skiing/Free Heel Adventures: On & Off Piste

  • Sassy in the Steeps: designed for Babes skiing black diamond terrain to take their skills to the next level. Build confidence and learn new techniques for artfully skiing the steeps…all packed into a fun weekend with the gals.
  • Sisters in the Steeps: Fear the steeps and narrow chutes? SIS is designed for the advanced skier or rider looking to build her confidence and learn new techniques for artfully skiing the steeps…all packed into a fun weekend with the gals. Held at Silverton Mountain, a unique lift served backcountry ski area is the perfect venue to both push their skills tot eh nect level and to enjoy the backcountry without the hike or fear of avalanches.
  • Ski Mountaineering: Designed for advanced skiers wanting to get out there. These multi-day Backcountry Skiing Adventures combine backcountry skiing, peak descents and ski mountaineering skills with winter camping or a backcountry hut trip experience.
  • Summer Ski Camps: Need your summer snow fix? Designed for the intermediate through advanced skier wanting a fun summer ski adventure combining coaching on skiing techniques and backcountry skills, guided backcountry tours, après ski gatherings and more.

Slides Shows/Special Events:

  • Backcountry Basics Slide Shows: Learn new stuff or refresh your backcountry brain. The slide show focuses on the basics of backcountry travel: equipment, terrain, skills, basic backcountry safety and resources.
  • Luna Film Fest: Films By…For…About Women. A Fundraiser for The Breast Cancer Fund & local cancer support organizations.
  • Snow Divas Women's Week: Week long festival combining on snow Telemark and backcountry skills workshops, demo days, evening slide shows and wine tasting, daily yoga and wellness workshops and seminars, pampering services and Full Moon Hut Trip.
